Pest (1994-2000)
"Is this creation an experiment in synthesis of contradiction or pure insanity?"
Press-reactions like this are no rarity since the austrian bass/guitar/drum trio PEST expanded with cello, accordion and performance in 1994.
They enjoyed international acknowledgement as they finally released their first record in 1995 (a picture disc in limited edition).
Although the music (mostly instrumental) is hard to classify, the media was quite imaginative:
"(the) orchestra…fiddles it´s loosened, awkward melodies with no holds barred."
"…music without any consideration of length or monotony, variety as it´s main principle."
"An accordion, a cello, various threateningly flowing schlieres of noise."
PEST performed at exhibitions (a.o. H.R. Giger/CH, Irwin (NSK-Laibach)/SLO), modern-dance festivals and other occasions in Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Japan.
The performance, which is documented in the video "Slomo" (1997), did not always result in news paper headlines like this: "Austrian artists spread terror and repulsion!".

Apart from one track on the french AMANITA compilation "Does time affect memory?", and one track on the austrian KAPUsampler "Aufmachen!!!", PEST released their last CD "Quinolone" in 1998. Available at www.trost.at

"A concept, ironcast and taken to the fine structure of a brain dissection…Pest (the plague) raise the level for a Gesamtkunstwerk to epic heights."
