Night Finder (2003)

Night Finder was Signa Sørensen's first project following the Twin Life series. The installation was placed in the public square outside the Copenhagen theatre Kanonhallen, and marked the first of a series of nomadic projects set inside and around caravans. In an urban construction of a decaying cult compound, the performers collaborated to develop their own form of magic through various improvisations of ritual. Nightfinder explored and aspired to transcend various female stereotypes and disguises by testing their potential for occult powers. The visitors mingled with a dead prostitute, a waiting bride, a murderess and a heroine, each waiting for a sign or someone that may or may not come. Night Finder lasted six days, with audience visiting the camp both night and day. The performance could also be observed through surveillance cameras from the foyer of Kanonhallen.

Press Quotes:

"Just as you are seated there in the trailer, touching glasses, listening and telling stories, the line between poetry and reality disappears. One is deeply moved by that easily recognizable longing between man and woman, which 'Night Finder' revolves around. This made one of the guests suggest that the place should be called "The Square of Longing". All in all a surprisingly good suggestion, not just for theatre - but for city renewal."
- Monna Dithmer, Politiken

"...a magic, whodunit kind of a game that unites the madonna/whore-myth with the dream of being a white bride… There is no doubt that in terms of form, Signa Sørensen's 'Nightfinder' is the most daring and fascinating work on the festival so far."
- Vibeke Wern, Berlingske Tidende
